FWC Receives Accreditation from the North American Wildlife Law Enforcement Accreditation (NAWLEA)

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) Division of Law Enforcement has made history by becoming the first agency to receive accreditation from the North American Wildlife Law Enforcement Accreditation Program (NAWLEA). This prestigious recognition marks a significant milestone in advancing conservation law enforcement professionalism and effectiveness.

On March 3, 2025, FWC officially received its accreditation during the SEAFWA's Chiefs' Conference in Myrtle Beach, SC, following a rigorous assessment conducted on January 14-15, 2025. The evaluation included interviews, observations, and an extensive review of FWC's law enforcement operations, policies, and procedures. By meeting NAWLEA’s approximately 70 standards, FWC has demonstrated its commitment to excellence in wildlife conservation and public safety.

"This milestone is a great honor that reflects the professional excellence of our accreditation team and the entire FWC Division of Law Enforcement," said Col. Brian Smith, Director of the FWC Division of Law Enforcement. "Meeting the standards and goals set by NAWLEA enhances our wildlife conservation efforts and strengthens the profession as a whole."

North American Wildlife Law Enforcement Accreditation plays a vital role in advancing natural resource law enforcement by establishing and maintaining rigorous standards. Through its accreditation program, NAWLEA fosters a culture of accountability and continuous improvement, ensuring that Conservation Law Enforcement Agencies adhere to best practices in conservation law enforcement.

FWC’s achievement serves as an inspiration for other conservation law enforcement agencies seeking to enhance their professionalism and effectiveness in protecting natural resources. The NAWLEA program is excited to be a part of advancing conservation law enforcement throughout North America.
